Jacque D. Patterson, Sr.

As a candidate for Ward 8 Councilmember, Jacque Patterson understands the obstacles many residents face as they work to improve their quality of life. Raised in a family that stressed the importance of education, he attended public schools during his formative years. Driven by a desire to care for his elderly parents and further his education, Jacque joined the United States Air Force upon graduating from high school. While serving in the military, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Workforce Development and his Master of Science in Public Administration. After nearly fourteen years of active duty, Jacque was honorably discharged and enlisted in the Air Force Reserves. He currently holds the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

Determined to apply the Air Force principle of “Service before Self”, Jacque has dedicated nearly two decades working tirelessly on behalf of Ward 8 residents. He was elected as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner of Ward 8’s Single Member District 8B06/07 for 4 two-year terms, serving as Chair for three of those terms. During his tenure, Commission 8B saw the commercial development of the GIANT Grocery Store and IHOP restaurant on Alabama Avenue, the construction of the world-class Town Hall Arts and Recreation Campus (THEARC), and the opening of the Andrews Federal Credit Union. Jacque served on the Board of Trustees for the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) charter school system, playing a vital role in the development of a new campus in the Hillsdale Community. He was also instrumental in bringing the academically focused after-school program, Higher Achievement, to an Anacostia facility. Jacque is the immediate past president of the Ward Eight Democrats, which increases Ward 8 resident’s engagement in the political process.

For the past four years, Jacque worked as a Managing Director for the Federal City Council, a nonprofit organization aimed at finding solutions to affordable housing, government operations, education, and public safety issues confronting the District of Columbia Government. Prior to this position, he served as Community Affairs Coordinator in the Executive Office of the Mayor, where he kept former Mayor Anthony Williams abreast of the concerns of District residents. Jacque began his work in public service as a Capital City Fellow assigned to the Office of Tax and Revenue.

Jacque and his family reside in the Shipley Terrace neighborhood of Ward 8. He is married to the former LaShandra D. Johnson and the proud father of three beautiful children, Jacquelyn, Jacque Jr., and London. Jacquelyn, the oldest, is a graduate of Ward 8’s Thurgood Marshall Academy and currently in her junior year at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA.
